Reflective Narrative
In this course, we studied various different cultures, particularly the cultures of the students enrolled in the course. This included American, Japanese, British, and Canadian cultures. We compared these cultures and analyzed similarities and differences, especially comparing them against Japan, as that was where we were all living at the time. The purpose of the course was to help us develop our intercultural communication skills further. Therefore we spent class time learning how to interact more smoothly in intercultural situations by considering our cultural biases and how to be sensitive in different situations. Through this, we gained a deeper understanding of other cultures and developed our analytical skills in comparing and contrasting cultures. We contemplated the course content through written reflections on various topics we covered in class (ex. humor reflection). There was also a large final presentation on a topic of our choice. I collaborated with another student from England to discuss health in America, Britain, and Japan.
My goal in the future is to continue to learn more about various cultures around the world. To do this, I hope to make more international friends and read about and explore other countries.
