Towards MLO 4
Reflective Narrative
The point of PreCapstone is to get a jump start on the Capstone and learn how to properly do research for it and create the needed surveys. In the early part of the course, we met with a CSUMB librarian. She spent an entire class period going over how to research productively and make sure our sources were appropriate. A main part of this was showing us the existence of and how to use the large amount of resources available to us from the CSUMB library. It was particularly helpful to be introduced to Zotero, an application that is extremely helpful when saving and citing sources. We were also continuously guided by the teachers on how to improve our research questions, survey questions, and Literature Review on our Capstone topics
The product of this course was the start of of the Capstone project. You can see the completed project in the "Capstone" section of my ePortfolio. My partner and I chose research focused on Interculturality and Foreign Language Education.
Through this course I gained a greater understanding of how to use the library resources. I had never fully utilized the resources before, but this course opened my eyes to a lot of the resources available and how helpful they can be. My research skills have improved a lot due to this course.
My goals in the future are to continue to improve my research capabilities, until doing good academic research is second nature to me. Next semester, I will be completing the Capstone project with my partner, which will help me further hone my research. Afterwards, I intend to continue research with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC). In the farther future, I'd like to apply my research ability in Graduate school.
